The problem is that Coinhive uses the visitor's CPU to mine cryptocurrency (Monero/XMR specifically), and depending on the settings provided by the Website Owner, this mining process can eat up all of the machine's processing power, causing your browser to suddenly take up 100% of your CPU time. That is not something we consider a "better" alternative to ads.
